Learn how to prepare a garden for planting and how to sheet mulch using cardboard!
About this event
Here in California, late Fall and Winter are perfect for planting because of our seasonal rains. This new garden will demonstrate our top 10 most popular and reccomended shrubs for our Lawn Busters program. This program converts lawns into native and drough-tolerant landscapes that save water, improve biodiversity, and create habitat for wildlife. The demonstration garden will have year-round blooms and will attract all sorts of pollinators! Some of these shrubs include native sages, manzanita, penstemon, and more!
Volunteers will learn about/how to:
The benefits of native shrubs and drought-tolerant shrubs
Mediterannean climates
Prepare an area for shrub planting
Identify decomposed mulch vs native soil
How to sheet mulch to supress grass and weeds.
