JOIN VALLEY WATER AND DAILY ACTS FOR A FREE WEBINAR:
Rainwater Catchment
It might be hard to believe that in California, though we are being hit with many storms and flooding events, we are still in a drought! Though this winter season has brought us many abnormal weather events and inches of rainfall, many of our current residential areas and landscapes, unfortunately, have not been designed to properly take in this water; which leads to more intense drought conditions.
So how we redesign our communities to honor the rain?
Join Elizabeth Sarmiento of Smart Yards Co-Op to learn how you can work with rain in your landscapes rather than send it to the storm drain!
You can catch and store rainwater in your garden both in the ground and in rain tanks. Catching rain can strategically move water to irrigate your garden. Rain tanks can be low-cost systems that can catch as much rain as you have space for, and offer you a supplemental supply of water during the dry months. In fact, one inch of rain on a 1,000-square-foot roof can help your harvest 600 gallons of water!
Don't worry, all of these practices are designed in a way that will not breed mosquitos! Instead, they will allow you to support groundwater recharge, reduce stormwater pollution, and can act as an emergency resource when you rain tanks.
