Our City Forest: Education Center: Help Us Prepare Our New Shrub Garden

Learn how to prepare a garden for planting our Top 10 Lawn Conversion Shrubs!

About this event

Here in California, late Fall and Winter are perfect for planting because of our seasonal rains. This new garden will demonstrate our top 10 most popular and reccomended shrubs in our Lawn Busters program. This garden will have year-round blooms and attract all sorts of pollinators!

Volunteers will learn how to:

  • Prepare an area for shrub planting

  • Identify decomposed mulch vs native soil

  • How to mulch a trail

Can't wait to see you there!

What to Bring to Volunteer:

  • Closed-toed shoes

  • Gardening gloves

  • Appropriate sun or rain protection (Sunscreen, Hat, Rain jacket, etc.)

  • Water! Please bring plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated throughout the morning

All first time attendees must submit a Volunteer Waiver & Release form

  • Participants18 and older must submit a Participant Waiver and Release Form.

  • Participants under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian complete the Participant Waiver and Release Form.

  • Participants under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian to attend.
