Our City Forest: BUILDING A HÜGELKULTUR PART 1

Come volunteer at the OCF Community Nursery! Learn about native plants and stewardship of native, drought-tolerant plants by volunteering

About this event

Help our City Forest! Here in Our City Forest we try to show different ways to have drought tolerable gardens. So this November coming to OCF Nursery is Hügelkultur, but in order for OCF to talk & teach about Hügelkultur. We first have to build it. So come on down to the Community Nursery. (This event is a High Intensity.)

We will start this workday with a tour of our Community Nursery. Then, participants will work together with OCF AmeriCorps members to help build a Hügelkultur (Hoogul Culture).

Other tasks may include:

  • Sanitizing stakes, pots, and other transplanting materials

  • Weeding/invasive species eradication and prevention

  • Moving trees and shrubs to make space for new stock

  • Assisting with maintenance and clean-up efforts

  • Encouraging healthy tree structure through leader-tying and restaking

  • Hand-watering shrub stock and mature plants in our garden spaces

No experience necessary, just a willingness to work with others while enjoying the outside! Great opportunity to gain hands-on nursery and landscape experience while supporting a good cause!

This event is for ages between 14 to 50+, for other possible events check out our eventbrite page!
