In the spring, melted snow rushes into the Mokelumne River, the main water supply for East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD), providing drinking water for 1.4 million customers. EBMUD carefully manages the Mokelumne River watershed to protect water quality while providing an oasis for wildlife and people. In this presentation, Michelle Workman from EBMUD will describe the fisheries program on the lower Mokelumne River, discussing EBMUD’s robust stewardship program to mitigate for lost salmonid habitat and support natural resources.
Mark Rauzon with Friends of Sausal Creek (FOSC) will take us to Oakland where they are celebrating 25 years of local watershed stewardship. FOSC are a home-grown community organization, partnering with the City of Oakland and the Alameda Flood Control District to provide creative solutions to erosion control, trout management, landscape rehabilitation, and invasive plant control. Mark will also focus on FOSC’s successful water quality improvement projects, environmental education in creek stewardship, and native plant propagation.
