Home Rainwater Collection and Rain Gardens - San Jose

  • Martial Cottle Park 5283 Snell Avenue San Jose, CA, 95136 United States (map)

The rainy season is about to start! Your roof collects 600 gallons of rainwater for every 1000 square feet of roof area with every inch of rainfall, but where does all that precious water go? Don't let it run off of your property and into the storm drains, Harvest it! We have three rainwater collection systems on our parcel that collect several thousand gallons of rainwater for use in our greenhouse, along with feeding two small rain gardens on the east end of our pavilion, which will provide inspiration and ideas for your home. Come join Master Gardener Hank Morales for a discussion about home rainwater collection systems and how to construct your own simple system. He will also talk about rain gardens, which are another way to retain rainwater on your property.

Participants should wear closed-toed shoes, layered clothing and a hat, as the class is held outdoors in our Pavilion. A refillable water bottle, notebook and writing implements are recommended. Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time to park and sign in. Please note: the park charges $6.00 for parking, or you can park on Chynoweth Avenue near Vauxhall Circle for free.

Free.  For more information, please click here.
